The UFC has announced that they will be having an event in Pittsburgh on September 16th, competing against the highly anticipated boxing bout between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin. Although their is no headliner announced yet, two very exciting match ups have been added to the event today.
A welterweight scrap between the very exciting (10-1) Mike “Platinum” Perry and (22-11) Thiago “Pitbull” Alves that was originally planned was canceled and has now been moved to this event. Perry is coming off of a very impressive knockout of the year candidate against Jake Ellenburger, and Alves coming off of a decision win against Patrick Cote.
The other fight set is between (34-7) Hector Lombard and (27-12) Anthony Smith, which on paper is fireworks that is a guaranteed crowd pleaser. This is Lombard's second bout at middleweight and he will be looking to get a much needed win, with his recent victory being back in March of 2014 against Jake Shields. On the other hand, Smith is coming off the biggest win of his career with a comeback knockout against TUF winner Andrew Sanchez.
Although the headliner is still not set, these two fights are a very nice start to the event. It looks like with the announcement of these bouts, a lot more announcements on this event will begin to come out soon. Who would you like to see in the main event?
